OUR VISION
In 2008 the Kirk Session agreed to adopt this vision statement as an expression of where we believe Jesus is leading us:
everyone is encouraged to live in the reality of Jesus'
love.
WORSHIP we
commit ourselves to give glory to God by leading lives of passionate,
creative and committed worship. PRAYER we commit ourselves to a life of
prayer, both individually and corporately, recognising its vital role in
advancing God's Kingdom on earth. WORD we
commit ourselves to sustain the ministry of Word and Sacrament drawing
people deeper into God's family and more fully engaging them in his mission.
REPENTANCE we
commit ourselves to the task of repentance and forgiveness, that through the
power of the cross, we would allow God to unseat our pride and grow us in
right living and thinking.
THE PRESENCE OF GOD we commit ourselves to seeking
ways in which God's presence may be more manifest in our life and worship,
that people might experience more of his joy and his love, and know that
Jesus is alive. HEALING we commit to continue Jesus'
ministry of healing and deliverance bringing restoration and forgiveness.
EVANGELISM we
commit ourselves to growing our witness to the life transforming love of
Jesus Christ, through the cross, so that people regularly come to faith
or re-commitment. RENEWAL we commit ourselves to seek unity
with the rest of Christ's body in Gorebridge as far as it is in our power,
and to seek renewal and revival in the Lothians, in Scotland and beyond. we commit ourselves to exploring
and supporting alternative ways of doing Church, so we can obediently and
enthusiastically follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. DEEPENING
FAITH we commit ourselves to
cultivate Christlikeness in ourselves and in one another, seeking to
deepen our love of God, our love of one another and our compassion for
those who don't know Jesus, that Jesus might be seen in our daily lives. GRACE we recognise that our lives are
lived in response to God's free gift of love to us in Christ and that only
by the work of the Spirit in our lives can we continue his saving work. NETWORK GROUPS we commit ourselves to the
fellowship of small groups, to growing in discipleship, caring for one
another through times of trial, sharing in each others' joy, and supporting
one another in work and in family. IDENTITY we seek to grow to the place where
our sense of identity and acceptance comes from our adoption as children of
our Heavenly Father LEARNING we commit to pursue a greater
knowledge and understanding of God's Word communicated in the Bible,
individually and as a community, so that we may apply this in our daily
lives. SERVING we commit ourselves to a life of
dedicated service and humility, that our lives are no longer our own but
belong to Jesus. RELATIONSHIPS we commit ourselves to friendship,
building strong relationships in God's love with people within and without
Christ's body. we commit ourselves to discovering
and nurturing gifting, recognising that we are most fruitful when serving in
the gifts the Spirit has given. And where a gift is lacking we commit
ourselves to pray for that gifting to be given. GIVING we commit ourselves to giving,
that our tithes and offerings might further Jesus' mission in our world and
bring relief to those in need. ACCOUNTABILITY we commit ourselves to speaking
the truth in love, to mutual and loving accountability, to leading and
serving well. YOUNG PEOPLE we
commit ourselves to nurturing our young people that at the earliest
possible age they would be encouraged to make a commitment of faith and
begin a lifetime of discipleship. PASTORAL we
commit ourselves to care for one another with Christlike love,
recognising our Father's love and concern for every person. we commit ourselves to the
pastoral care of vulnerable people, for the elderly and those with special
needs, integrating them as fully as possible into the life and worship of NETWORK GROUPS we commit ourselves to encourage
everyone to enter into the mutual pastoral support of regular small group
fellowship. THE WIDER COMMUNITY we
commit ourselves to being embedded in the life of our community, sharing
its pains and its triumphs, to be community builders, and to actively
participate in as many local groups as we can. SCHOOLS we commit ourselves to being an
active presence in the schools, taking our place in chaplaincy, education
and outreach. LOVE IN ACTION recognising God's compassion for
the poor, we commit ourselves to show Christian love in action through work
locally, nationally and internationally, and to use Fairtrade products
wherever possible. HOME we commit ourselves to the active
support of families, of marriage and those called to a single life. CHURCH LEADERSHIP we
commit ourselves to transparent and effective leadership, good
communications, and the wise and accountable use of resources. THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND we commit ourselves to take our
full part in the wider Church of Scotland, recognising the call to wider
Church responsibilities and the debt we owe to the rich heritage we have. THE CHURCH FACILITY we commit ourselves to developing a purpose built community church. GUIDANCE we
commit ourselves to earnestly seek God's will for our lives both corporately
and individually, that Jesus may be Lord of this Church. |
